Welcome to the ERC funded project for the Historical reconstruction of Ancient Israel through the exact and life sciences.
The aim of this project is to concentrate on the micro-archaeology of Ancient Israel diachronically and synchronically.
The project includes ten research-tracks, which represent different disciplines, but they are all designed to reexamine traditional premises about Ancient (biblical) Israel, and have the potential to revolutionize what we know about its material culture, cognitive world and history. Among the broader questions which will be addressed are: identifying the segment/s of the Canaanite society which gave birth to early (proto-) Israel; the rise of self-identity; the development of ethnic boundaries; the notion of 'all Israel' between Israel and Judah, etc. Such a broad research project in the realm of archaeology and the sciences, focused on a single archaeological period/theme, has never been conducted anywhere…
